If you are a human with any connection to mass media, then you have heard the news, Oprah is quitting her show. Whoopie doo. But here is my issue…
For the last season or so Oprah has been doing “live” shows from Chicago on Fridays. She has preached over and over that the shows are live and there is no rehearsal. I call bullsh!t. I was watching something on Friday morning when a news update from the local station started. And what did I see? A tape of Oprah saying goodbye. At first you may say, well she IS in syndication so somewhere she was already on TV and announced it. UM…if it is a live show (at 4 on the East coast) how did a clip of her LIVE announcement make it on the news at 12ish? It doesn’t make sense. It couldn’t have leaked because the Friday show is never taped…right Oprah?
All I’m saying is, who cares if your show is live or taped…people will still watch it. And why make such a teary goodbye? Your studio isn’t being foreclosed upon, Steadman has not left you for Tyra (yet) and Gayle…she’s your own personal cockroach that just never goes away. Oh right my point…Miss Oprah, you are leaving THIS show because you are BUYING YOUR OWN NETWORK and will have one if not multiple shows on that station. So tell me how you are sad about this. My sneaking suspicion is that the tears weren’t “Oh no my show is over” but really “I can’t believe how much MORE money I am going to make…watch this MARTHA muhahaha!!” I like Oprah (we go out for Chinese on the weekends in her jet…and in my dreams) and she is an entertainer awesome host darn good talker and there will be a gaping hole when she does finally close the Harpo studios stage in 2011, I’m just scared to see who is going to take over?! Say it ain’t so Dr. Phil…say it ain’t so!
